A 9-year-old differently abled boy from Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was found dead Monday afternoon in a nearby canal after he left his Saywack Street home unknown to his father and sister.
The lad, who attended the Virginia Primary School, was at home with his father and sister.
Police have reported that the incident occurred between 15:00h and 16:00h but the boy’s relatives raised an alarm at about 17:30h when he was nowhere to be seen.
“…as a result a search party was activated and later went into a canal on the southern side of the road where they carried out a search and the deceased was found without clothes,” the Police said in a statement.
Following the discovery, the lad was taken out of the canal and placed on a dam. The Police was summoned and upon arrival examined the boy’s body where it was observed that he had a cut on his left hand with stitches.
During an interview, the boy’s father said that the boy was jumping a fence in the neighboourhood a week ago and cut his hand on a zinc in the process. The boy’s body was taken to the CC Nicholson Hospital where he was pronounced dead by a doctor. The body was subsequently transported to the Lyken Funeral Home where a post mortem examination will be done.
