Deceased, Shirwin Murray

Berbice cricketer, 38-year-old Shirwin Murray  died Tuesday night after his motorcycle crashed into a parked truck on the No.47 Village, Corentyne Public Road.
The accident occurred just after 10:PM, according to police. Murray was reportedly driving in a northerly direction when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into the parked truck. He was rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he died.

In a Facebook post, President of the Berbice Cricket Board, Hilbert Foster said 2020 does not  seem to be getting better as he offered his condolences to the relatives of Murray.” I knew him for over 20 years and over that period of time had always found him to be very funny , cooperative and very passionate. He along with his dad, Linden were very strong in their support of my efforts to transform Berbice Cricket. I shall dear miss his words of encouragement and advice on the way forward,” Foster wrote. He added: “He (Murray) was never afraid to speak his mind if something was not to his pleasing and this is where I respected him the most as I rather someone being honest in front of my face than behind your back.”

Foster said the Upper Corentyne cricket shall be poorer without his presence “but it is my sincere hope that those of us he left behind would redouble our efforts to lift the game even higher.”

“The memory of him that would remain with me forever was when he offered me a bottle of beer to cool down with a huge smile on his face, knowing fully well that I do not consume alcohol. Rest in peace, my friend and thanks for the memories .Thanks for the opportunity of knowing you and I  promise that we would make Upper Corentyne Cricket even better in your memory. On behalf of the RHTYSC and BCB, I would like to express our deepest sympathies to his Dad ,Mum and extended family.”
