She urged residents to continue to observe COVID-19 rules such as washing of hands and wearing masks. On Friday a team of officials from the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs visited the village to distribute care hampers.

Residents noted that the first evidence of the cases were noticed soon after a former village leader turn Member of Parliament visited the village although he was recovering from the pandemic. One of his relatives, who is among the list of persons who contracted COVID-19, is recovering from the virus in the Intensive Care Unit of a public health facility in the city.
