Policy Forum Guyana (PFG) is celebrating Earth Day 2023 in style on Saturday April 22nd with the launching of its ‘1.5oC Lifestyle campaign. The event will take place on Saturday April 22nd on the lawns of Brickdam Cathedral on the corner of Brickdam and Camp Street, from 1.00 p.m. to 5.00pm. There is no Admission fee.
PFG, in a release said its 1.5 Lifestyle Campaign embraces this year’s Earth Day theme, “Investing in Our Planet,” by adopting more sustainable and environmentally conscious lifestyles.
Human behavior is the beginning and end of the climate crisis, it was noted. However, the “incessant accumulation of consumer goods has devastated natural resources, creating global warming and the climate crisis.”
The organisation stated that people constantly stressed by anxiety about possessions and appearance, relieve the stress by consuming things they don’t need and through drugs, liquor and other disabling behaviour. “The 1.5 Lifestyle campaign challenges this destructive way of living by fostering pathways to a more unified, healthier, resilient, inclusive youth-led future.”
The event will feature a mini expo, games, paint by numbers mural, music, and other exciting activities aimed at educating. With a Zero-Plastic Policy in place, this environmentally conscious event promises to be both fun and educational for attendees of all ages.
Thus far, Friendship Secondary, New Amsterdam Multilateral, Queen’s College, Presidents College, and St. Rose’s High have signalled their intent to participate.
“We are excited to commemorate Earth Day 2023 with an event that celebrates our planet and demonstrates how working and taking decisions together empowers us all individually as well as confronting the Climate Crisis,” said Benita Davis, the Project Coordinator.
“Our organisation has always focused on projects that have a direct impact on youths, and we are thrilled to have so many schools participate in this event.”
