Covid death toll at 119  

…Guyana closing in on recording 4000 cases  

Guyana Covid-19 death toll has climbed to 119 following the death of two persons on Saturday, the  Ministry of Health has confirmed.

In a statement the ministry said that as of October 24, 2020, two more persons who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) died. This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 119. The latest fatalities are a 78-year-old male from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) and a 86

year man from Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni). They both died while receiving care at a hospital. In expressing sincerest condolences to the families of the two deceased, the ministry said that it will make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time to render any assistance needed. The ministry also is appealing to the general public to respect the confidentiality of the two deceased and their families and to allow them to mourn their tragic loss in peace.

“All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO. 9), which are in effect until October 31st, 2020. This order emphasises: ▪ the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home; ▪ the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others; ▪ and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Meanwhile, also on Saturday the reported that there were 34 new Covid-19 cases. Guyana total number of confirmed cases is 3, 994. Of that number 13 persons are in the Covid Intensive Care Unit. A number of persons are also in home and institutional isolation.
