At about 09:25 hours this morning  (Monday, March 13) a motorcyclist was injured in a serious accident at the corner of Shell Road and Vlissengen Road, Georgetown.
The injured man was driving motorcycle number CJ2665 when his cycle collided with at least one other vehicle, a large land cruiser. Other vehicles may also have been hit by the motorcycle.
According to persons at the scene, the motorcycle was speeding at the time of the accident.
Witnesses say that the motorcycle was speeding west along Shell Road, weaving among stalled vehicles on the traffic jammed road. One witness –a woman who appeared to be in tears — said, “Why was he going so fast?”
The motorcycle turned left (south) onto the equally traffic jammed Vlissengen Road. The front of the motorcycle collided with the rear of at least one vehicle which was moving slowly north, amid heavy traffic along Vlissengen Road. The man was thrown from the motorcycle. He landed in the middle of the street on Vlissengen Road between two vehicles.
The man who appeared to be in his twenties or thirties appeared to be unconscious. He was bleeding profusely from visible wounds on his head andother parts of his body.
Policemen who were at the scene were seen going through the injured man’s pockets and retrieving documents.
Police were heard lamenting, “Where is the ambulance?”
Police at the scene refused to discuss the specifics of the accident or disclose the victim’s identity.
