According to a recent FAO press release, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), QU Dongyu, will visit Bridgetown, Barbados on Monday for both technical and political events. He will visit the Bridgetown Fisheries Complex to learn about the implementation of a FAO-supported fish silage project that turns fish waste into a nutrient-rich mixture for both terrestrial and aquatic animals, as well as a fertilizer.

QU will then participate in the launch of the Early Warnings for All Initiative (EW4ALL) for the Caribbean, which focuses on reducing the risks of climate disasters with the support of Caribbean Prime Ministers. On Tuesday, QU will attend the sixth meeting of the Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) to work with governments, agencies, civil society, and the private sector on implementing policies to prevent drug-resistant infections. AMR is a growing concern due to the misuse and overuse of antimicrobials and the resulting spread of drug-resistant microorganisms, affecting human and animal health and the environment.
