“I come from a very humble family. I come from a very beautiful family that has always loved me. I grew up in Good Intent in the West Bank of Demerara and I was that little girl who went from house to house and no matter what I wanted… Sunny D… ice-cream…just someone to talk to…My compound was filled with love and family and that’s all I know.

“So, as you see me you may have expected someone from Hollywood to have a certain way of being or carry themselves in a certain way, but as you see me you see humility and that’s literally from my family and that’s literary from God and I don’t know any other way to be than to be humble.”

King T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman)                  Princess Shuri (Letitia Wright)

In the Marvel Comics Movie, Letita reprised the role of Shuri, the sister of King T’Challa, who is now the inheritor of the Kingdom of Wakanda after the death of her brother.  Shuri is the teen girl genius and is also the chief science officer for Wakanda. She was officially accepted as a Black Panther after successfully fighting, on behalf of the greater good for the King and the Kingdom of Wakanda.

Whilst Shuri is in Guyana, among several sightseeing and meetings, she also found the time to visit the Patentia Primary School, Nimes, West Bank Demerara. She attended the school before migrating. In her inspirational talk with the children she encouraged them to stay focused, never doubt themselves even if others do, and to pursue their dreams.  She told them they are “fearfully and wonderfully made…[and] whatever it is God has placed in your heart that you feel could be of positive a contribution to our earth, to our planet, to our people, to Guyana, please focus on that and commit yourself to it.”

Letitia migrated to the United Kingdom with her family when she was eight-year-old. She still has relatives in Guyana.
