It’s a homecoming for Guyanese-British actress Letitia Wright as she arrives in the country tonight (Friday. Jan 27th) The star of the hit Marvel film Black Panther and its sequel Wakanda Forever will be greeted by Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Oneidge Walrond at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

This visit to Guyana comes after President Dr. Irfaan Ali extended an invitation to Wright last November, congratulating her on her success and her acclaimed role as Shuri in the Black Panther franchise.

Wright was born in Georgetown, Guyana on October 31, 1993, and migrated with her family to Tottenham, London, UK when she was seven. Despite her young age, the actress has already made a name for herself in the entertainment industry, earning several awards and nominations for her performances.

In 2018, she won the Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actress in a Sci-Fi for her role in Black Panther. The following year, she received the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Role in a Motion Picture, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, and The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Rising Star Award. Additionally, she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy in 2018.

Wright’s visit to Guyana is not just a chance for her to reconnect with her roots, but also an opportunity to promote the country as a tourist destination. The Ministry of Tourism is excited to welcome the young actress and show her the beauty and culture of Guyana.

With her undeniable talent and humble nature, Letitia Wright is an inspiration to many and a true representation of the Guyanese spirit. We look forward to seeing her continue to make waves in the entertainment industry and hope that this trip will be the first of many visits to her homeland.
