Member of Parliament (MP) and Opposition Whip Christopher Jones has taken to his social media to review the Government’s destruction, last week,  of homes, businesses, livestock and crops in the village of Mocha Arcadia. The destruction still being quantified will run into tens of millions of dollars. The Government has sought to justify its action by saying occupants on the land were given notice to move because their properties were in the pathway of the new road. Many have debunked the claim and have outright accused the government of coveting ancestral lands.

Jones, providing evidence the destroyed businesses, homes, livestock and crops were not in the pathway of the road, said “as depicted in this image, it is evident that the recent inhumane, shameful and downright dictatorial actions of the PPP/C Government, in the community of Mocha Arcadia was unnecessary. The residents were not in the DIRECT path of the road and as such there was ample time to continue the negotiation process with the concerned residents.

“This Government continuously brands itself as a caring one, promoting the mantra of ‘one Guyana,’ but what the nation witnessed on January 6 was far from One Guyana. The actions of the Government on that day were more in line with Animal Farm, whereby all the animals were equal, but some more equal than others. I say this because Mocha was and has been a community treated with great malice, under the PPP/C.”

MP Christopher Jones, Opposition Whip

Going further, he noted, based on his foregoing paragraphs, that one might think that he will pull the race card…but he won’t!! “I will pull the human card, irrespective of race, we are all humans – first and foremost – and we must treat each other with compassion. This is what this Government lacks, they lack compassion!! No right thinking person would think the destruction of another person’s home and livelihood is rational.”

As is said at the beginning of this post, reminded Jones, and as contained in the image, “the houses were not in the DIRECT path of the road, there was no state of emergency! And as such there was more time to engage the residents….the government’s actions were not as a matter of urgency but the willful mistreatment of humans – and we should not be surprised, because this is what they are known for……….”
