Via social media, Hercules has been offering fitness tips & advice and most recently he has been interviewing some of Guyana’s top athletes as they share insights into their athletic journey and advice for those who wish to follow in their footsteps.

He was born to Roy and Beverly Hercules on 4th July, 1994.

Hercules has four siblings and now resides overseas.

Karon described his childhood as “fun and cool,” he further stated, “growing up in the countryside is amazing. I recall going to the backdam, playing in the mud with friends, doing bushcooks, climbing fruit trees, catching crabs, playing cricket, racing,  etc.”

He attended West End Nursery, Novar Primary, and gained a spot at President’s College after writing the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA).

After completing high school, he went on to further his studies at the Art Williams & Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering School where he pursued an associate degree in aeronautics. He then went on to get his Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) licence and now he’s a licensed aircraft technician and inspector. He also has certificates in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid.

Athletics and Fitness

His love for track and field events started when he was a kid, when he raced with his friends, Hercules also won the Sportsperson of the Year award at Novar Primary. At President’s College he also participated in their sports events which saw him going to nationals about four times to compete with other schools.

Watching the Olympics Games was also another motivating factor for Hercules.

While in First Form at President’s College, another student told Karon, he was getting fat and he took that statement personally and began exercising during the July/August holidays and reduced the number of times he’d eat, as a means of reducing his weight.

He said, “I learned about fitness training while at President’s College,  it was new to me, but it was something I loved and it stuck with me.”

Karon aims to start an athletics club and gym to improve athletics in Guyana starting with his hometown, Mahaicony, then expand within Region 5 and eventually the country at large. However, he plans to utilise the gym as a business and the profits will go towards buying equipment for his athletics club.

He noted that though he is not a certified fitness trainer, but rather, he teaches based on knowledge and experience he has gained over the years.

“Some of my Guyanese teammates and I feel like the Athletics Association of Guyana, let us down… We have talent here in Guyana,” added Hercules.

Karon and his colleagues decided that they would then share their knowledge and experience with Guyanese youths and as such, they want to create an organisation (most likely an NGO), have it spread across Guyana to work with athletes.

He said, “The Athletics Club and Gym is to help train people (especially the less fortunate) who just want to be fit and wish to compete on the highest level in Guyana.”

He stated his family and a few of his friends are his support system.

‘I’ll be damned if I sit around another year dreamin’ dreams, hopin’ somehow that they just appear,’ is a part of a Cole song that keeps Hercules motivated.

In the future, Karon aims to further his studies in aeronautics, start a business, expand his athletic club, and be a licensed & certified fitness trainer.

His advice to youth is, “always remember why you started and never give up. Even if you fail, use it as a tool to motivate you and keep moving forward. “
