Raylene White is a teacher, a motivator and the Learning Pod Leader at the village of West Canje, Berbice, a position she has held for the past six months.  She is a resident of Savannah Park, New Amsterdam Berbice, and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Ms White has been a teacher for 25 years and is passionate about working with young people and she is thrilled to bring the technology-integrated after-school learning program to her community of young scholars.

White was introduced to the STEMGUYANA program by a friend, and initially had some doubts about whether she would be able to handle the additional workload after a long day at school. However, a call from Ms. Alisha Koulen, one of the program administrators, changed her mind, and White has enjoyed being a part of the program ever since.

The learning program offered at the West Canje learning pod includes reading, coding, robotics, maths, science and english and has been beneficial to the students with whom Ms White works.  The lessons expose students to new technology concepts and also serve as a form of reinforcement for core academic concepts taught in the classroom.  Ms White reports that the program also provides her with new ideas to use in her own classroom. Prior to joining STEMGUYANA, White had no experience with coding, but now enjoys working on coding projects with the students at the West Canje pod.

The community at West Canje has a group of talented scholars with bright futures in any field and especially the field of technology, and Ms White looks forward to the progress they will make in the coming year. Ms Raylene White reports that she is grateful to be a part of the STEMGUYANA team and the West Canje learning pod.
