Farmers and residents of Lima Sands, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) are now benefiting from an asphaltic road with concrete drains, as the second phase of a road project is now fully completed. Lima Sands is a stronghold of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic government.

The Department of Public Information speaking with Kester Hinds, engineer from the Ministry of Public Works, who had responsibility for the project, explained the road measures 640 metres with a width of 6.1 metres. A concrete drain was also constructed on one side of the road.

Works were carried out on the project to the tune of $136 million.

In the meantime, farmers in Queenstown village, Region Two, who access their farms via Church Street see only part of their road asphalted. The front part of the road, which is asphalt, stops at where supporters of the government live, even though on the gravel road there are people who live there and others who use the road to get to their farms. Those persons are not known to be supporters of the government.

This particular street is in the second village bought by former slaves immediately after Emanciaption. Queenstown village, which is on the Essequibo Coast, was bought after Victoria village on the East Coast Demerara.
