The award was presented at the Creative Arts Emmys Awards on Saturday. The Creative Arts Emmys were held over the weekend, and honours the best in artistic and technical achievement in American primetime television programming.

Chadwick Boseman also won a posthumous Emmy in the Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance category for his role in the animated series What If?

His wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, accepted the award on Boseman’s behalf.

“When I learned Chad was nominated, I started thinking of everything that was going on in the world and our world and being so in awe of his commitment and dedication and what a beautiful moment that one of the last things he would work on was something so important to him and to the world but also something new,” she said in her speech according to Deadline.

“You can’t understand your purpose unless you ask what if? What if the universe is conspiring in my favour? What if it’s me? Chad would be so honoured, and I am honoured on his behalf.”

The South Korean drama Squid Game also won its first Emmys at the weekend’s ceremony taking home an actor award and three other trophies.

The drama won in the categories Outstanding Stunt Performance, Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Single Episode, and Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More).

Lee Yoo-mi won the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Ji Young.

Squid Game will compete in the Best Drama category at the 74th Primetime Emmy awards. It is the first non-English language series to be nominated for that prize.

The 74th Primetime Emmy awards, hosted by Kenan Thompson, will take place on Tuesday, 13 September. (News 24)
