Foreign investors do not like politically unstable countries

Dear editor,

Does the PPPC government that insists on a policy of racial differentiation not understand that investors will visit and talk and perhaps even verbally commit but won’t make any firm moves until they can satisfy themselves that they will be able to recoup their investments and deliver on their commitment to maximizing the wealth of their stockholders?

Will that happen in a country where Afro-Guyanese are locked out of taxpayer funded contract allocations, out of large business deals, where their children are subject to pettiness and injustice?  Did they listen to the words of the old lady from Bare Root?

With one constantly congested exit to the airport and another easily blocked exit up the coast, only those who can guarantee themselves super profits in the shortest timeframe will endure the risk and come.  Foreigners are not stupid.  They use google.  They contact Guyanese on linkedin.  They do their research.  They do not just depend on the optimistic lies from government officials.

Editor, please let the government know that until everyone has equal access to opportunity to benefit, the country will never see its full potential.  We’ll just have to settle for foreign oil companies who exploit us while we complain every day in the newspaper.  Maybe that is enough for those who see themselves as Guyana’s future billionaires.
