Woman surrenders to police after stabling 4-year-old girl

The 28-year-old woman, who viciously stabled her girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter, turned herself into the police on Tuesday in the company of her lawyer.

The Guyana Police Force, in a statement, said the woman turned herself into the Timehri Police Station, and is currently assisting with the investigation.

The victim – 4-year-old Zahara Lewis of Cemetery Road, Timehri – is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

According to the police, Lewis was stabbed by the 28-year-old woman on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at around 20:10hrs.

According to the victim’s mother –  a 28-year-old aviation officer – she and the suspect are in an intimate relationship, and have been living together at Cemetery Road, Timehri.

It is alleged that shortly before the incident, the two women were embroiled in an argument which became confrontational.

During the argument, the aviation officer picked up her daughter and had her in her hands. She then notified the suspect that she was leaving out of frustrated.

“The suspect then armed herself with a knife, approached the victim’s mother, and dealt a stab at her body, which ended up stabbing the victim in her left side abdomen,” the police reported.

The suspect then made good her escape.

The victim was subsequently taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where she was treated and immediately transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) to seek advanced medical treatment. She remains a patient at GPHC in a critical but stable condition.
