Berbice health director accused of breaking COVID-19 regulations

…faces charge of ‘ being part of a social event’

Coalition candidate in Berbice and Director of Regional Health Services in Berbice Jevaughn Stephen has been charged for breaking the COVID-19 curfew.

VPAC Says GECOM Must Reflect Guyana’s New Opposition Reality

He will be appearing at the New Amsterdam Court to face a charge of being part of a social event. 

Particulars of the offence states on Thursday 18 June 2020, at Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam , he attended a social gathering.

According to the statement of the offence , , Stephen breached the restriction of  socisl activity in contravenytion of  No 2 (1) (m) restriction, contrary to Section 

(No 2) No 53/2020  Contrary to 21 of the Public Health Act. 

 After recieving the summons Stephens took to his facebook page , where he wrote, ‘ 

“I have no issues with being charged for standing up for the rights of my party APNU-AFC. My issue comes when a certain political figure from the PPP along with a certain businessman from NA will go to the police and try to convince them to charge a certain set of people.”

“I challenge anyone in the media or the police force to prove that I Jevaughn Stephen was indeed part of any unlawful gathering on the day in question.

However I do hope that the Police is prepared to come with their evidence because it will be the start of a new day.’., his statement read. 

The charge stemmed from a peaceful protest organised by the coalition last Thursday in the New Amsterdam Township
