Biker dies in hit-and-run accident at Ogle

A man died Sunday night in a hit-and-run accident on the Ogle Railway Embankment,  East Coast Demerara, police have confirmed.

Dead is Romeo Edghill 17 of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara.

According to police the accident ocurred around 21.00hrs and involved motorcycle # CH 6584 driven by Edghill  who is also a contruction worker and a white wagon motorcar.

Enquiries disclosed that motorcycle # CH 6584 was proceeding east along the northern side on the Ogle Railway Embankment Road, East Coast Demerara. The white motorcar was proceeding in the said direction in front of the motorcyclist.
While the driver of the motorcycle was in the process of overtaking the motorcar, the car suddenly made a right turn south into Ogle Access Road and in the process collided into the rear portion of the motorcycle causing the driver to lose control and fall onto the road surface.

As a result of the collision the motorcyclist – who was not wearing a helmet suffered  injuries to his head and other parts of his body.

The driver of the car then fled the accident scene.

The motorcyclist was picked up in a conscious state, with help from public-spirited citizens, and placed in an ambulance which took him to Georgetown Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who pronounced him dead on arrival.

The body is presently lying at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortary awaiting post mortem examination. Further checks are in progress for the said unknown motorcar as investigations continue.
