Over 160 pupils highlighted as among top performers at NGSA

… Nirvana Wimal of Success Elementary leads the way 524 out of 527 marks

Out of 13,821 candidates writing the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) 2021, over 160 were specially recognised on Friday by the Ministry of Education for being among the top performers in their regions and nationally .

They were recognised at the Arthur Chung Conference Center at the release of the results of the examination by the Ministry. The highest possible total score obtainable was 527. Over 160 pupils gained between 524 to 510 marks.

The top position is held by Nirvana Wimal of Success Elementary with a score of 524 marks. Second position was shared by Parris Timmerman of Chateau Margot Primary and Deja Datt of New Guyana School with 523 marks.

Jada Persaud of Success Elementary secured the fourth position with 522 marks. Meanwhile, six candidates shared the fifth position with 521 marks. They are Aditi Joshi of Mae’s Under 12, Joshua Mc Arthur of Vryheid’s Lust Primary, Shabaka Yisrael and J’Kell Whyte
of Success Elementary, Khevin Sandy of Lowe’s Academy and Chelsea Persaud of Dharmic Rama Krishana.

All of these students are from Region Four, when including the Georgetown District (Region 11), and will attend Queen’s College. Among the over 160 singled out were the top performers of each Region and the Georgetown District.

Those who placed first in their Region include Region One – Troy Roberts of Port Kaituma Primary (508); Region Two – Shreya Ramnarine of CV Nunes Primary (517); Region Three – Gizelle Nicholson of Leonora Primary (520); Region Four – Nirvana Wimal of Success Elementary
(524); Region Five – Tiana Hughes of Rosignol Primary (511); Region Six – Raphael Omarao of Skeldon Primary (518); Region Seven – Sabastian Khan of Potaro Primary (495); Region 8 – Ishmaiah La Cruz of Mahdia Primary (504); Region Nine – Aisha De Freitas of
Arapaima Primary (517) and Region Ten – Akiera Campbell of Watooka Day Primary (518) and the Georgetown District – Deja Datt of New Guyana School (523).

The majority of these students will attend Queens College, The Bishops’ High, St Stanislaus College, St. Rose’s High, St Joseph High or other schools in their regions.

Apart from those who placed first in their Regions, there were others recognised in each Region as being among the best-performing students there. Added to this, is the remaining number of pupils across Guyana who made it as part of the country’s top 1 percent performers.

At the event on Friday, the top regional and top national top performers were presented with laptop computers compliments of Digital Technology. Additional laptops will go to students from the hinterland.

Meanwhile, a total of 290 candidates from schools in Regions 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 are eligible for entry into President’s College having attained a minimum score of 490 marks. Residential places are offered to candidates from Regions 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
