…say information was provided at debriefing
The Guyana Police Force has denied claims that it attempted to conceal the true sequence of events surrounding the shooting to death of Dartmouth Businessman Junior Orin Boston by ranks of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit on Wednesday.
Nigel Hughes and Konyo Sandiford, the attorneys presenting Boston’s family, in a statement on Wednesday evening submitted that that the contention by the Guyana Police Force that a confrontation between Boston and the SWAT Unit had led to the shooting, when evidence suggests otherwise, was an attempt to conceal the true sequence of events.
In a statement on Thursday, the Guyana Police Force said that the conclusion drawn by the attorney was premature and irresponsible.
Ruling out that it was an “act of murder,” the Force contended that there have been no “rush to judgement” or “immediate adoption of a hostile position” by the Police Force in view of the statement issued by the police.
It said the press statement was issued following a debrief of the ranks who were involved in the anti-crime operation at the time of the shooting.
“The Commissioner of Police (ag) Mr. Nigel Hoppie, however, clearly stated during his Press Conference Wednesday afternoon that the wife of the deceased has contradicted the unfolding of events as carried by the police and this will form part of the investigation being conducted into the matter by the Police Office of Professional Responsibility. She has since given a statement to the investigating ranks,” it said.
The Force noted that the issues of concerns raised by the Attorneys will be dealt with in the ongoing investigations.
“However, some aspects have already been discussed with relatives. Blood samples have also been uplifted at the scene and the bloodied bed sheet taken into custody by Police Crime Scene ranks,” it said.
In the Police Force, in the statement, assured relatives of Orin Boston and the general public that a thorough, impartial and professional investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Boston will be done.
