As of Tuesday September 1, 2020, the Government of Guyana will be reinstituting a nationwide 6pm-6am curfew, as part of measures to stop further transmission of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The curfew comes with the exception of a list of detailed essential workers including Parliamentarians, healthcare officials, the disciplined forces and the Guyana Revenue Authority, among others. Public servants and employees in semi-autonomous agencies are to continue working on rotation unless otherwise instructed by their respective Minister or Head of Agency.
Outdoor dining will also continue from 6am-5pm, with strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols. All healthcare officials are also to be given preferential treatment, as outlined in the gazette, which eliminates them having to wait in lines upon submission of identification.
Also, the Cheddi Jagan International and Eugene F. Correia Airports will remain closed to all incoming international flights, with some special exceptions. As part of measures to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols, charges will be imposed on individuals who fail to wear face masks in public spaces. The measures are to remain in full effect until September 30, 2020. As of August 30, 2020, Guyana recorded a total number of 1,234 COVID-19 cases including 41 deaths. (DPI)
