The Guyana Police Force, in a statement, said the accident occurred at around 21:30hrs on Sunday, August 15, 2021.
According to the police, Boodhoo was walking along the eastern side of the highway in a southern direction in the company of three friends, when one of them heard a vehicle approaching.

“He looked back and observed that the vehicle was approaching at a fast rate of speed which caused him to pull the person next to him to the left and safety. However, the pedestrian that was in front on the right was hit from behind by the said vehicle, which then drove away in a southern direction,” the police reported.

Boodhoo fell onto the road surface receiving injuries about the body. He was picked up in an unconscious condition by the police and public-spirited citizens, placed into a passing vehicle and taken to the MacKenzie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body is presently at the MacKenzie Public Hospital mortuary awaiting a PME.
