Ramson upbeat about bid to host ICC U19 World Cup

With the Cricket West Indies (CWI) 2022 ICC Youth World Cup looming, Guyana has submitted a bid to host the event and Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport, Charles Ramson said he was confident about this country’s chances.

Among the requirements, the interested territories will need to tick a number of logistical boxes, some of which include but are limited to, having the mandatory proper training facilities along with security details also immigration, customs, medical details. Added to this is the customary venue inspection for those countries who made their bids.

Current Guyana Jaguars and West Indies player Shimron Hetmyer led the Windies to the title back in 2016, creating a bit of history along with teammates all-rounder Keemo Paul and wicket-keeper batsman Tevin Imlach. Regarding Guyana’s position on their move to bid for hosting the Cup, Minister Ramson said at a press conference on Friday, “The Ministry is confident of being able to be successful in that bid, but obviously it’s still a competitive process. it has to be evaluated. But we believe our bid is strong.”  Some 16 teams will be vying for the trophy. It is the first time the ICC event will be held on Caribbean soil.
