–says young all-rounder coming into own nicely

Former Guyana Jaguars all-rounder Steven Jacobs believes West Indies all-rounder Kevin Sinclair has a bright future ahead in cricket and that the Guyanese has all the traits needed to be a good ambassador for his country and teams.

Although not retired Jacobs, one of the original founders of what could be termed as the Jaguars dynasty during their initial years of building the franchise, is now a jeweler. Jacobs also has somewhat been one of Sinclair’s mentors, especially being the face of Jacob’s Jewelry establishment. This added responsibility has further helped mould the Berbician into a marketable figure and one with a buzzing image to uphold both on and off the cricket field.

Asked what prompted him to handpick the former West Indies U-19 player to be the ambassador and face of his business, Jacobs said it was the youngster’s approach to cricket and dedication towards developing his personal game were among the qualities which stood out. “I think he’s very talented, I see some of myself and attributes in him, also in the role he plays within the team which is similar to mine. He’s very energetic, he has the discipline, he’s super fit and he’s someone who will progress and improve in all aspects of his game,” said the ex-Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) skipper.

Despite his humble beginnings, Sinclair the former West Indies Emerging Players (WIEP) star who really got the masses attention after winning the Regional Super50 two seasons ago with his rookie team, has still managed to maintain his poise and calm demeanor, except for when popping out one of his trademark acrobatic celebrations after a wicket.

Coupled with his hard work and his progression from the Guyana Jaguars 4-Day squad just last year, now to the West Indies senior team shows a tremendous display of maturity and personal growth as a player. Jacobs said due to what he has seen from the young spinner he was more than eager to help ensure that the Berbician was properly equipped to begin his journey to stardom.

“My relationship is me basically trying to assist any way I can to help bring his dream to reality. I mean it already happened by him playing for West Indies but consistency and continuity is needed so any advice on cricket I can give him especially with bowling because like I said he’s actually playing the same role”.

Looking at an unpredictable future, as unpredictable as the game of cricket itself, Jacobs is adamant that should Sinclair maintain his current regiments when it comes to his approach to the sport, it is likely that sky’s the limit for the dynamic young athlete. Jacobs himself wrapped up by throwing all the chips behind his young protégé, adding to the list of credible endorsements by past or current players who have all earmarked Sinclair for great things in his short career.
