…should result in a reduction to the current level of flaring

ExxonMobil Guyana is gearing up to start-up the recently repaired flash gas compressor which should reduce the ongoing above-average flaring of gas offshore Guyana to “background levels” flaring.

In an update provided by the oil company on Tuesday, it was noted that teams of experts are making final preparations for the same this week aboard the Liza destiny FPSO. The Company expects that its successful start-up will restore the flaring to “background levels”.

“With safety top of mind, the team offshore has been carefully and methodically reassembling the various components of the gas compression system, and are now running key instrumentation tests for a successful start-up,” the update detailed.

“Throughout this period, ExxonMobil Guyana has sought to strike a balance between safely maintaining production while minimising flaring. We have kept relevant government agencies and other stakeholders informed about the progress of the repairs and reinstallation.”

The Company said further that while the issues with these equipment have been disappointing and the COVID-19 circumstances have been challenging, it is committed to applying the lessons learned to improve the performance of its ongoing operations and future projects.
