A completed Post Mortem Examination (PME) performed on the body of Sahara La Cruz, a 15-month baby from Cabora Village, Moruca, North West District who died last week after experiencing convulsions, has shown that the baby suffered from a brain infection.

The PME was performed on Monday by Government Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh with dissection on the body at the Kumaka District Hospital Mortuary where the child’s body was identified by her mother Sabrina Alphonso.

On completion, Dr. Singh gave the cause of death as brain infection. The body was then handed over to the relatives for burial.

The baby’s death occurred shortly after 03:30 hours last week Tuesday. It is alleged that, being awakened by the toddler’s cries, the mother attempted to breastfeed her but the toddler refused.

A little while later she observed that her daughter’s body suddenly broke out in convulsions before finally stopping and the toddler thereafter remained motionless.
