A four-month-old baby is now dead after allegedly being stifled by the weight of her father’s right foot on her chest while he was sleeping in bed not long after consuming alcohol.

Inquiries disclosed that Kaylee resides with her 17-year-old mother Trecia Atkinson, her 18-year-old father Troy Williams and her 23-month-old sister in the lower flat of a two-storied wooden and concrete building.

According to the mother of the child, Williams normally consumes alcohol and returns home inebriated. On Saturday, about 20:10 hours Atkinson alleges that Williams returned home under the influence of alcohol and went into the kitchen where he fell asleep on the floor.

She retired to bed with the two children and states that about 22:25 hours Williams joined them in bed and they went to sleep.

At about 01:55 hours on Sunday Atkinson said she woke to breastfeed Kaylee when she saw William’s right foot was on Kaylee’s chest and belly and a whitish substance coming out of Kaylee mouth. Kaylee was motionless.

She then woke up Williams and they took Kaylee to the Suddie Public Hospital where she was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was examined by police but no marks of violence were seen. The body is at Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.
Statements were taken and additional inquiries are in progress.
