Leader of the Opposition, Joseph Harmon, Opposition Chief Whip Christopher Jones and Member of Parliament Amanza Walton-Desir visited Cort’s home to offer condolences to his family and friends.

Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud also visited Cort’s residence and offered words of comfort to his parents, who are in pain and reeling from the loss of their only son. She also extended the Ministry’s support to the family during this difficult time.

Hon Persaud expressed condolences on behalf of the Government of Guyana, as she sat down and spent time with the mother, Denise McPherson.

The child’s father expressed his pain at losing his son and appealed to parents to “question where their children acquire things that they don’t work for.”

In a statement on Thursday, Police said Cort was with his mother at the home of a 44-year-old businesswoman when he was shot by two armed bandits.

The 10 year-old was in the upper flat of a house located in ‘C’ Field Sophia in the company of others when the bandits approached the victims in the lower flat and held them at gunpoint. They were relieved of two cellphones valued $80,000 each, two gold bands valued $100,000, two gold rings valued $100,000, one gold chain valued $100,000 and $80,000 cash.

The suspects then ordered the said victims to the upper flat of the house via a northern door. Cort, at the time, was exiting the north eastern bedroom, when one of the suspects discharged a round hitting him to his left shoulder.
The suspects then ran north, jumped a zinc fence and made good their escape.

One 9MM spent shell was found near the body.
EMT Ambulance Services responded and pronounced the child dead. The body was taken to Lyken Funeral Parlour, awaiting a PME.
