An elderly man was Monday killed when a truck ran over him at the junction of Houston Public Road and Mandela Avenue.
The accident occurred around 10:55hrs. Dead is 60 year-old pedestrian of Curtis Street, Albouystown Gansham Cooblall. Police said that the accident involved two trucks and Cooblall.
Enquiries disclosed that the left side front of one of the trucks came into contact with the pedestrian. As a result of the collision the pedestrian fell onto the road surface where the left side front wheel ran over the him. An alarm was raised and the driver of the truck reversed and in the process of doing so the rear of his vehicle came into contact with the front centre of the other truck which received damage to the front.
The pedestrian was later picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and pronounce dead. A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver which revealed no trace of alcohol in his system. The driver is in custody assisting with the ongoing investigations.
