Bangladesh batter Towhid Hridoy produced a historic unbeaten double century to propel the hosts into a 30-run first-innings lead over the West Indies on the third day of the second Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, November 7, 2026.

Hridoy struck an unbeaten 242 off 359 deliveries, including 22 fours and 11 sixes, as Bangladesh recovered from a precarious position to reach 386 all out in reply to the West Indies’ first-innings total of 356.

His remarkable innings was the defining feature of the day, rescuing Bangladesh after the hosts had slumped to 184 for seven, still trailing by 172 runs.

The 25-year-old surpassed Mushfiqur Rahim’s previous national record of 219 not out to become Bangladesh’s highest individual run-scorer in Test cricket.

Hridoy also became the first Bangladeshi batter to convert his maiden Test century into a double hundred, completing the landmark achievement in a performance that transformed the contest.

He found valuable support from Taijul Islam, who scored 22, with the pair adding 117 runs for the eighth wicket to revive Bangladesh’s innings. Hridoy then continued the assault alongside Taskin Ahmed, who contributed 12, as the hosts moved beyond the West Indies’ total.

Taskin eventually fell to Jayden Seales, but Hridoy remained unbeaten as Bangladesh were bowled out for 386 in 111.5 overs, securing a 30-run advantage.

For the West Indies, left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican was the leading wicket-taker with four for 104, while Jayden Seales claimed two wickets.

The visitors began their second innings cautiously, reaching seven without loss from four overs before bad light forced an early close to play.

Brandon King was unbeaten on five, while Joshua Da Silva had two. The West Indies therefore trailed Bangladesh by 23 runs at stumps, with all 10 wickets intact.

The third day’s proceedings marked a significant shift in momentum. Bangladesh had resumed at 88 for three, facing a substantial deficit, but Hridoy’s extraordinary resistance and attacking stroke play turned the situation around.

The West Indies, who had posted 356 in their first innings, will now look to rebuild their position when play resumes, while Bangladesh will seek to capitalise on their narrow lead.

With two days remaining, the second and final Test remains finely poised, although Hridoy’s record-breaking performance has given the home side renewed confidence.
