Region Three Chamber appoints Khaimwatie Seenarine as Assistant Secretary-Treasurer

The Essequibo Islands-West Demerara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (R3CCI) has appointed Ms Khaimwatie Seenarine, an educator and the principal of Smart Learning Guyana, to the office of Assistant Secretary-Treasurer.

The Executive Management Committee made the appointment on Sunday 4 October 2026. Ms Seenarine declared her interest in the matter and abstained. The office had been vacant since 30 September, when Mr Fiaz Khan resigned from it.

Ms Seenarine was elected to the Committee at the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting on 30 April 2026 and has served as a Committee Member since. She moves from that seat into the office, and holds it until the conclusion of the next Annual General Meeting, when it returns to election by the membership.

A classroom career, and a technology business built out of it

Ms Seenarine has spent 23 years in education. She has served as a master trainer in the Renewed Nursery Curriculum and works today as a nursery field officer.

She led the development of the Animal Friends Learning App, which the Ministry of Education launched in 2023. Her company, Smart Learning Guyana, received a Small Business Bureau Green Tech Fund grant in 2021.

That combination is what the Chamber says it wanted in the role. Smart Learning Guyana is a small business that has taken a national grant, built a product, and put it in front of a ministry. It is the path the Chamber spends most of its time trying to clear for other members, and the Assistant Secretary-Treasurer has now walked it.

What the office does

Under the Chamber’s bylaws, the Assistant Secretary-Treasurer acts for the Secretary or the Treasurer when either is absent, which places the officer across both the Chamber’s records and its finances. The appointment restores cover for both functions.

Statement

“Khaimwatie has sat with us since April and we already know how she works,” said Mr Theon Alleyne, Vice President of the Chamber. “She has built something real out of a classroom career, and she has done it as a small business in Region Three, which is exactly the membership we serve. She brings that experience to the office, and I am glad she agreed to take it on.”

The Chamber thanks Mr Fiaz Khan for his service in the office. He remains a member in good standing.
