The Guyana Heritage Society is pleased to announce the launch of its new mixed-format presentation series on Guyanese heritage and culture, commencing on Thursday, 22 October 2026.

This series is intended to create opportunities for members, researchers, practitioners and invited presenters to share knowledge and encourage greater appreciation of the people, traditions, places and stories that form Guyana’s rich heritage.

The inaugural presentation will be delivered by the Society’s very own Petamber Persaud on the topic:

“BALGOBIN: A Missing Dimension in Our Oral Tradition”

Mr Persaud will provide reflections on how the Balgobin tales speak to the resilience, wit and coping mechanisms of early Indian indentured immigrants as they navigated hardship and displacement. The presentation will also highlight the importance of recognising and preserving these stories as part of Guyana’s oral and cultural heritage.

Please save the date. Further information on the time, and arrangements for online participation will be shared shortly.
