The University of Guyana (UG) will mark its 60th Annual Graduation Ceremonies in November, with more than 3,700 graduands expected to receive degrees, diplomas and certificates across ceremonies at its Turkeyen and Berbice campuses.

The milestone ceremonies will begin on November 17 at the Turkeyen Campus and continue through November 28, when graduates of the Institute of Distance and Continuing Education (IDCE) Extra-Mural Programme will receive their awards.

UG said the more than 3,700 graduates will make the 2026 cohort one of the largest in the university’s history.

The Turkeyen ceremonies will be held at the Sattaur and Ameena Gafoor Multipurpose Auditorium, beginning with the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and the School of Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation on the morning of November 17.

Later that day, graduands from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, College of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry will participate in the afternoon ceremony.

On November 18, the Faculty of Education and Humanities will graduate in the morning, followed by the Faculty of Social Sciences, IDCE, the Institute for Human Resiliency, Strategic Security and the Future, and the College of Behavioural Sciences and Research in the afternoon.

The University of Guyana Berbice Campus will hold its graduation ceremony on November 20 at 3 p.m. at the University Lawns at the Tain Settlement campus.

Graduands of the IDCE Extra-Mural Programme will have their ceremony on November 28 at the Turkeyen Campus.

UG said the ceremonies will celebrate students who are preparing to enter the national, regional and international workforce.

The university, established in 1963, has played a central role in Guyana’s higher education system and has expanded its academic offerings over the decades. According to the university, it has produced more than 73,000 graduates during its 63-year history.

“The University of Guyana has produced more than 73,000 graduates in its 63-year history, many of whom have gone on to serve at the highest levels across the public and private sectors, nationally, regionally and internationally.”

The 2026 convocation therefore represents both a celebration of individual academic achievement and a milestone in the development of Guyana’s principal national university.

UG is encouraging prospective graduands to obtain information about their individual graduation arrangements through their Student Records Management System (SRMS) accounts. Updates will also be posted through the university’s official website and WhatsApp channel.

Members of the public will be able to follow the ceremonies through live streams on the University of Guyana’s Facebook page and the UG Broadcasting Service, with local and international media also expected to provide coverage.

The university’s 60th convocation comes as Guyana continues to expand its economy and demand grows for trained professionals across sectors including engineering, medicine, agriculture, education, business, environmental sciences and technology.

The ceremonies will provide an opportunity for the university to highlight the contribution of its graduates while marking six decades of annual convocations and more than six decades of academic service to Guyana.
