Guyanese professional tennis player Sachia Vickery finished fourth in the women’s singles at the South American Games in Santa Fe, Argentina, after being forced to retire from her bronze-medal match because of injury.
Vickery lost the first set 6-2 to Argentina’s Luciana Moyano before retiring when the score reached 2-0 in the second set. She had earlier reached the semifinals after defeating Paraguay’s Leyla Britez and Chile’s Antonia Vergara.
The tournament marked Vickery’s first representation of Guyana, following her switch of sporting allegiance. She is pursuing qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
