Thirty years ago today, I committed myself to joining the People’s National Congress Reform (PNC/R), and that decision has been one of the most defining choices of my life. Today, as I mark three decades, 360 months and more than 10,000 days, of active membership, loyal service and unwavering commitment to the Party, I do so with profound gratitude, humility and an abiding appreciation for the experiences, relationships and responsibilities that have shaped my political and public life.
My journey began at the grassroots of the Party, where I learned that politics is primarily about people. It was there that I came to understand the importance of organisation, discipline, service, sacrifice and perseverance. I also learned that meaningful political engagement is not confined to elected office or public platforms, but is founded in communities, strengthened through conversations with ordinary citizens and demonstrated by the willingness to stand with people in both their triumphs and their difficulties.
For thirty years, I have remained a committed member and steadfast Party stalwart, serving through changing political seasons, times of progress, moments of uncertainty and periods when loyalty and resilience were tested. My commitment has always been based on a sincere belief in the values, principles and aspirations of the PNC/R, and in the Party’s responsibility to make a positive contribution towards the advancement of Guyana and its people.
Over these three decades, I have had the privilege of serving the PNC/R in various capacities and at different levels of responsibility. From grassroots activism to leadership within the Party, each chapter presented unique challenges, valuable lessons and new opportunities to serve. I have never viewed the responsibilities entrusted to me as merely titles or positions. Rather, I have viewed each one as an opportunity to contribute, represent the people and advance causes to which I have dedicated much of my adult life.
My tenure as a Member of Parliament and my service as Director of Sport broadened even further my understanding of leadership and public service. These responsibilities reinforced my conviction that leadership must ultimately be measured not by titles held, but by lives touched, opportunities created and communities enhanced. Whether in Parliament, among the sporting fraternity, within the Party or among the wider population of Guyana, I have made a constant effort to discharge every responsibility with commitment, integrity and a genuine sense of purpose.
Three decades in the sphere of political life also invite reflection. I have witnessed periods of great difficulty, moments of political uncertainty, significant achievements and occasions when perseverance was required in the face of adversity. I have experienced victories that inspired hope and disappointments that required courage. Yet, though every season presented different challenges, my commitment to the PNC/R has remained strong, grounded in service, democratic participation, social advancement and an enduring faith in the potential of the Guyanese people.
I am especially grateful to all the comrades, colleagues, mentors, friends and supporters who have accompanied me along this journey. Many provided guidance when it was needed, encouragement when the road became difficult and crucial criticism when necessary. I also acknowledge those who came before us, whose courage and contributions helped to build and sustain the political movement we now call our own.
As I celebrate this milestone, I do not regard 30 years as a point of termination, but rather as an opportunity to take stock of the road I have travelled, reaffirm my purpose and consider what responsibilities lie ahead. Guyana continues to evolve, and that evolution requires leaders who can listen, respond and remain connected to the expectations, concerns and aspirations of the people.
I remain profoundly honoured to have served the PNC/R for these 30 years. I am also fully aware that with every responsibility entrusted to me comes an obligation to serve with distinction, courage and accountability.
Thirty years of membership.
Thirty years of loyalty.
Thirty years of service.
Thirty years of standing with the Party and the people.
Three decades later, my gratitude is deep, my commitment remains steadfast and my resolve to contribute to the advancement of Guyana has not diminished.
Thirty years have prepared me for many things, but perhaps the most important chapter of this journey is the one that has not yet been written. And when the time is right, the people will know what comes next.
Thank you!
