The four suspects who were arrested and placed in custody for the alleged rape and beating of a ninety-eight-year-old granny have since been released without being charged.

Regional Commander of Region Six, Jairam Ramlakhan said the police are continuing their investigation into the incident with leads that will seek to bring justice for the elderly woman. He further noted that the men were questioned thoroughly following their arrest but they have not confessed to the gruesome act, as such they were released from custody since the 72-hours detention time had passed.

Ramlakhan said that while they are awaiting the results from the DNA samples that were taken on the day in question, a file has already been prepared and sent to the chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice. The elderly woman lives alone at Rose Hall Town. On February 23rd, the woman was discovered in her home with marks of violence about her face and blood stains around. According to her caretaker, the door was opened when she arrived and there was a glass containing alcohol on the step.

The police were informed and the woman was taken to the hospital where an examination was done and it was revealed that she was sexually assaulted by the men.

Meanwhile, one of the suspects who was initially held by police for the act has since spoken out about the incident and wants his name to be cleared. The young man in a Facebook video said that he would never even think about doing such as he is always around his mother, sisters and even grandmother who is as old as the victim. He said he never did anything like that and would like for his name to be cleared. He further went on to say that he was beaten by the police on two occasions.
