GRSI Makes Aviation History, Opens New Lifeline to Guyana’s Hinterland

A new chapter has opened in Guyana’s aviation history with Guyana Rotorcraft Services Inc. (GRSI) becoming the first domestic aviation company to secure a Rotorcraft Air Operations Certification, clearing the way for commercial helicopter services across all administrative regions.

The milestone is more than a regulatory achievement. For communities scattered across Guyana’s vast interior, it could mean faster access to medical care, stronger connections to the coast and new opportunities for businesses and industries operating far from traditional transportation networks.

GRSI will initially begin operations with its recently acquired Bell 206 helicopter, with plans to expand its fleet with multi-engine aircraft before the end of the year.

At the heart of the company’s expansion plans is a specialised Medical Evacuation (Medevac) service designed to reach remote communities where conventional airstrips and reliable road access are unavailable.

For residents living in isolated areas, the ability to move a critically ill or injured person by helicopter could make the difference between waiting hours or reaching medical attention within a fraction of that time.

The company’s entry into the market therefore comes at a time when Guyana’s development is increasingly reaching beyond its coastal population centres, placing greater demands on transportation and logistical links to the hinterland.

GRSI’s achievement is also the culmination of more than a decade of perseverance.

Capt. Tarick Ramnarace, CEO of the Mazahar Ally Group of Companies, the parent group of GRSI, said the certification took more than 12 years to achieve and was marked by significant challenges.

“This certification was in the making for over 12 years and faced a lot of challenges, but with our dedicated team we never gave up, we kept the ball rolling.”

That persistence has now positioned the company to provide more than conventional commercial charter services. GRSI is targeting a broader role in connecting Guyana’s communities, supporting resource and logistical operations and delivering emergency medical transportation to places that can be difficult to reach by road.

The planned addition of multi-engine aircraft is expected to further increase the company’s capacity and expand the range and reach of its operations.

The development is particularly significant for Guyana, where much of the country’s interior remains separated from coastal population centres by dense forests, rivers and challenging terrain. Helicopter transportation can overcome many of those geographic barriers without requiring the extensive ground infrastructure needed for conventional transportation.

GRSI’s certification consequently represents not simply the arrival of another commercial aviation operator, but the opening of a new avenue for connectivity.

From transporting workers and supplies to responding to medical emergencies, the company said its operations will help bring greater mobility to communities and industries across the country.

After 12 years of persistence, Guyana Rotorcraft Services Inc. has secured its place in the country’s aviation history—and is now preparing to take the next step by helping Guyana reach places that conventional transportation cannot.
