The Institute for Action Against Discrimination (IFAAD) extends warm greetings to all Guyanese on the occasion of Emancipation Day.
Today, we honour the courage, resilience, and unwavering spirit of our African ancestors, whose sacrifice, suffering, and determination secured the freedom that future generations now enjoy. Their struggle against slavery and oppression remains one of the greatest examples of strength and perseverance in human history.
As we celebrate this important day, we must never forget the price they paid for liberty. Their legacy calls on us to continue the fight against all forms of discrimination, injustice, inequality, and prejudice, while promoting unity, respect, and equal opportunities for every citizen.
Emancipation Day is more than a celebration of the past—it is a reminder of our collective responsibility to build a Guyana where freedom, justice, dignity, and equality are realities for all.
May the memory of our ancestors continue to inspire us to stand together in the pursuit of a more just, inclusive, and united nation.
Happy Emancipation Day!
