The Sergeant in Charge of the Blairmont Police Station 53- year-old Colin Whyte was on Monday refused bail when he appeared at the Blairmont Court on a charge of attempted murder.
The charge read by Magistrate Peter Hugh alleged that he injured Special Constable Shonetta James at her home at Fort Wellington West Coast Berbice ,with that intent on February 11th last.
Reports had stated that Whyte and the Special Constable had been involved in a longstanding intimate relationship during which she had borne him two children.
Reports alleged that Whyte went to the woman’s home on the evening of Thursday February 11th and during a conversation she told him that she no longer wanted anything to do with him; that their relationship was over.
On hearing this it was alleged, Whyte reportedly angrily whipped out firearm and discharged at round at her hitting her in her neck.
He then reportedly transported her to the Fort Wellington Hospital l and then left after she was seen by doctors.
The woman was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where her condition was listed as stable and she was subsequently discharged.
However in Court this morning a relative told Magistrate Peter Hugh that the Special Constable had been readmitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital earlier today because the bullet was still lodged in her shoulder.
After refusing bail, Magistrate Hugh fixed March 4th next for further hearing of the charge.
