The Government of Guyana has launched El Dorado Reimagined, a national gold and jewellery brand designed to move the country beyond the export of raw gold and establish a presence in the global market for premium jewellery and luxury products.

The initiative was unveiled on Friday by President Irfaan Ali as part of activities marking Guyana’s 60th Independence anniversary. The launch also featured a commemorative one-ounce gold medallion produced entirely in Guyana, from mining and refining to minting.

Addressing stakeholders from the mining and jewellery sectors, President Ali said the country must capture more value from its natural resources by expanding local processing, manufacturing and branding. He noted that Guyana has historically exported primary gold while higher-value activities such as refining, jewellery production and international marketing generated wealth elsewhere.

The President said the new brand is intended to showcase the quality of Guyanese gold, local craftsmanship and internationally recognised production standards. Products marketed under the El Dorado Reimagined label will be required to meet strict certification and quality requirements.

Government plans for the initiative include promoting Guyanese jewellery at international exhibitions, expanding access to luxury markets and creating opportunities for sales through overseas missions and duty-free outlets.

Ali said the long-term objective is to establish Guyana as a recognised producer of premium gold jewellery and luxury gold products, allowing the country to benefit more fully from the global jewellery industry.

Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat said the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening traditional productive sectors alongside the country’s expanding oil and gas industry.

He noted that the gold industry continues to be one of Guyana’s most important economic sectors, directly and indirectly supporting approximately 30,000 people while contributing significantly to national earnings.

According to Bharrat, the commemorative medallion serves as both a symbol of Guyana’s 60th Independence anniversary and the first major product under the El Dorado Reimagined brand. He said it highlights the country’s growing ability to transform locally extracted resources into finished products through domestic refining and manufacturing.
