The Guyana Squash Association (GSA) has retained its leadership structure following its Annual General Meeting and elections held on Saturday, with President David Fernandes returning unopposed to head the organisation for the upcoming term.
The newly constituted executive reflects a blend of continuity and gradual change, with several returning members joined by an expanded presence of women in key leadership roles.
Among those elected are Loraine Ince as Vice-President, Victoria Arjoon as Secretary, Ashley DeGroot-Khalil as Treasurer, and Ashley Khalil as Assistant Secretary/Treasurer. Additional roles include Roseann Bulkan overseeing Junior Affairs, Tian Edwards as Chairperson of Competitions, and Deje Dias serving as Clubs Representative. Owen Verwey continues in the role of Immediate Past President, while Alex Arjoon remains Athletes Representative.
The association noted that, due to the absence of an Annual General Meeting last year, the current executive will serve a one-year term to ensure alignment with its constitutional requirements and governance standards.
Speaking after the elections, Fernandes highlighted the importance of maintaining unity within the sport, particularly as opportunities for Guyanese players continue to expand internationally.
The association enters the new term following notable infrastructure developments. In 2025, new doubles courts were commissioned at the national facility, increasing the total number of available courts and enhancing training capacity for athletes.
Looking ahead, the GSA is preparing for upcoming international engagements, including Guyana’s hosting of the Pan American Junior Championships in 2027, with continued support from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport expected to further develop local facilities.
