Fire of unknown origin destroys Haslington house

Police are investigating a fire of unknown origin which completely destroyed a North Haslington, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home on Saturday leaving a 25-year-old woman homeless.

The victim, Ann Eve Knights, resided at the 10 by 20 feet wooden structure with her sister. The building was resting on several concrete pillars about four feet off the earth surface facing west in an unfenced yard. The house did not have electricity at the time.

According to reports, the woman said she left home at about 08:15h to order bread and pastries for her business. It was while she was at Presidents College Road, Golden Grover, she received word that her home was on fire. She immediately returned home.

The Guyana Fire Service was summoned and responded promptly to extinguish the blaze.
