Dear Editor,
The PPP/C government continues to deceive the Guyanese people with empty promises and false assurances. During their campaign, they pledged to tackle corruption, but their actions, or lack thereof, tell a different story. We have repeatedly provided evidence of the embattled Minister of Agriculture’s corrupt practices, including scandals involving the importation of chicken, the drainage pump scandal, and fuel scandals in Region 6. Additionally, we called for a thorough investigation into what we termed “Sue Gate.” To date, the government remains silent on these serious issues.
If the PPP/C is genuinely committed to governing Guyana in accordance with the principles of a modern democracy, it must demonstrate its resolve through concrete actions. This includes implementing policies that root out corruption at all levels of government. If that requires ministers to be held accountable and even removed, so be it.
We once again call on the authorities to investigate the ministers implicated in corruption. As we move into this year, we will continue to provide updates on both low- and high-level corruption cases, as transparency and accountability are foundational pillars of good governance.
