At approximately 4 am, in the vicinity of No. 61 Village, the LEID officers were carrying out an intelligence-led operation that resulted in the seizure of a large wooden vessel loaded with uncustomed goods, principally alcoholic beverages. This interception, while a crucial step in curtailing smuggling activities, soon devolved into chaos. As the officers began escorting the confiscated vessel to a secure facility near No. 43 Village, a group of men launched a well-coordinated ambush.
In their attempt to reclaim the seized goods, the attackers violently confronted the officers and forcibly took back possession of the vessel along with its illicit cargo. Thankfully, through effective collaboration with the Guyana Police Force and the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit, authorities managed to apprehend four individuals believed to be involved in the attack.
