OTTAWA, Sept 23 (Reuters) – Canada will provide C$60 million ($43.35 million) in funding to support stability in Haiti, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.
The funding includes C$40 million for the multinational security support mission in Haiti and C$20 million for a regional maritime security initiative to bolster capacity to address the growing threat of transnational organized crime in Haiti and the Caribbean region, the Canadian foreign ministry said in a statement.

The Reuters Daily Briefing newsletter provides all the news you need to start your day.

Armed gangs have taken control of almost all Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince in an extended conflict that has forced some 1.3 million people from their homes, killed thousands and fueled famine-level hunger.
