The Bartica United Youth Development Group (BUYDG) respectfully calls on all religious leaders and ministries across Guyana to designate the upcoming Saturday and Sunday as two days of national fasting and prayer. This sacred time of reflection is dedicated to ensuring that the General and Regional Elections on September 1, 2025, are conducted peacefully, without violence, division, or unrest.

This election is one of the most significant in Guyana’s history. Contesting political parties are seeking the opportunity to lead the nation into the future with promises of development, growth, and responsible management of our oil wealth. While the current PPP/C government has initiated several projects toward national development, much more is needed to transition Guyana from a developing nation into a modern, first-world society.

World Heritage Day

As a multi-religious and multi-ethnic nation, BUYDG believes that unity in prayer is a powerful tool to guide leaders, calm tensions, and inspire peace among citizens. We encourage our Christian, Muslim, and Hindu brothers and sisters to draw on the wisdom of their sacred texts to support this cause:

  • Bible (Matthew 5:9): “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.”

  • Qur’an (Surah 8:1): “And make peace between yourselves; and fear Allah, that you may receive mercy.”

  • Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 12, Verse 15): “He who has peace of mind is free from fear and enmity.”

We urge religious leaders and citizens of Guyana to pray for all contesting political parties, their leaders, and members, as well as the Joint Services responsible for maintaining law and order, voters, GECOM staff, local and international observers, and all persons attached to the electoral process. Our prayers should focus on wisdom, safety, fairness, and unity, ensuring that the elections truly reflect the will of the people in peace.

Guyana’s future must be defined by unity, growth, and shared prosperity not by division or violence. BUYDG believes that two days of collective fasting and prayer will not only demonstrate the nation’s spiritual strength but also send a clear message that the people of Guyana are committed to peace.
