Former Barbados Prime Minister, Owen Arthur died, officials in Barbados confirmed. He was said to be critical Sunday night as his condition worsened since he first took ill earlier this month and was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown. He passed away early Monday morning.

Barbados TODAY Sunday evening reported that it had obtained a copy of a statement issued by Member of Parliament Colin Jordan to constituents of St Peter: The statement reads: “Good evening team. I hope that you and your families are well. There have been rumours circulating about former PM and our representative of 34 years, Mr Arthur. I visited him this evening and can share that he is being monitored and treated by the medical team, at the hospital. We continue to pray for his recovery.”
Village Voice Gy was told that Arthur had been hooked up to a ventilator. His family was briefed earlier on Sunday.  Arthur, who was the country’s longest serving prime minister, retired from public life in 1998. He was head of the Commonwealth Observer Missing that monitored the recent elections in Guyana. Earlier this year he was appointed chairman of the financially strapped airline LIAT.
