Attorney Nirvan Singh, the lawyer who allegedly hurled racial and other insults at a police constable just over a month ago was on Wednesday charged and placed on $100,000 bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The Police Constable at the centre of the issue is Shawnette Bollers. The Guyana Police Force has so far not issued a statement on the alleged abuse of the rank and has also failed to bring any charge against Singh, who has since denied the allegations. The private charge was filed by Attorney Eusi Anderson, who is representing Bollers.
Singh is the son of retired former chancellor of the judiciary, Carl Singh. According to the court particulars on the 20th March at Middle and Cummings Street, Georgetown, Nirvan Singh allegedly incited racial hostility towards Bollers in contravention of the Racial Hostility Act on the grounds of her race as an Afro Guyanese.
