By Pt.Ubraj Narine- I have taken note that we have seen senior Muslim leaders boldly and unapologetically coming out in strong support of the Irfaan Ali-led PPP Government. They are vocal, united, and determined to ensure their community’s interests are protected and advanced. Meanwhile, we Hindus — despite decades of loyalty to the PPP — continue to face marginalisation and the disrespect under this same regime.

It is deeply troubling that while our temples struggle for recognition, some among us are quick to place garlands around the necks of politicians who have done little to uplift the Hindu community. We must ask ourselves — when was the last time we placed a mala before Bhagawan (GOD) or when was the last time you garland your parents? with the same enthusiasm we show to these leaders?

Let us face the truth: Bharrat Jagdeo, a man who openly disregards core Hindu dietary and cultural principles, cannot claim to be a representative of our faith. If we are serious about preserving our heritage, then we must question: What have Hindus truly gained from the PPP in all these years? Where is the evidence of our culture being promoted at the national level? What tangible benefits have our people received?

It is time for Hindus to unite and make clear demands:

  1. Land grants for the establishment of Ashrams and Hindu schools.
  2. Scholarships and development funds allocated specifically to registered Hindu organisations.
  3. Budget allocations that reflect the contributions and needs of our community.
  4. Bans on alcohol sales during our sacred festivals such as Diwali and Phagwah.

If the government truly believes in equality, then Hindu voices must be heard and respected. Until then, I will continue to speak out against the injustices and neglect faced by our community under the PPP regime. Silence is no longer an option — the future of our culture and our faith depends on action.
