AFC Mourns the Passing of Son of the Soil – VIBERT WELCH

The AFC mourns the passing of Vibert Welch, a true son of Guyana, who made its soil more fertile. Vibert was a man who served his country with passion and dedication. He was, at the heart, an Administrator, who sought, wherever he went, to make systems better for the people who relied on them.

Vibert is best known for his roles in Regional Administration, in biodiversity and conservation, and in Government. Vibert Welch knew the geography of Guyana intimately – not from book knowledge, but from practice, and by walking and traversing the hills, valleys and communities, that 90% of Guyanese never touch.

As a tireless campaigner, Vibert was integral to the AFC’s successes in the hinterland and offered himself as a Candidate in the General and Regional Elections of 2006 and 2011, and in 2015, assumed the critical role of a Permanent Secretary. Wherever he went, whatever he touched, was the better for it. He will be missed by many.

The AFC extends it’s sympathy to the family, friends and associates of Vibert Welch in this moment of grief. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
